Nizza24 news from the French Riviera Friday December 27
Post-Christmas shopping: the new trend conquering Nice
December 26 has transformed into a day of intense shopping in Nice, with stores launching a series of private sales and early promotions. Consumers, increasingly attentive to savings opportunities, have crowded avenue Jean-Médecin taking advantage of discounts ranging from 10% to 60% on clothing, footwear, and accessories. This trend has consolidated over the years, with department stores leading the way and small shops having to adapt to remain competitive.
Shopping strategies: gift cards double their value
An emerging trend sees consumers strategically using gift cards received at Christmas. Many deliberately wait for the post-Christmas period to take advantage of promotions and maximize the value of their vouchers. As in the case of a 200-euro voucher that, thanks to discounts applied from December 26, can reach a value of 600. Retailers confirm that more and more customers prefer to give “values” rather than specific objects, allowing recipients to get more thanks to promotions.
Temu wins the “Golden Cactus” for controversial business practices
The prestigious French magazine “60 millions de consommateurs” has awarded for the eighth consecutive year its “Cactus” prizes, which denounce the most harmful commercial practices towards consumers. This year the “Golden Cactus” was awarded to Temu, the Chinese e-commerce giant. The platform is currently under investigation by the European Commission for selling potentially dangerous products, including unauthorized medicines, chemicals, and toys that don’t comply with safety standards. Moreover, the company is accused of implementing aggressive and potentially addictive marketing strategies, with gamified reward systems that could compromise users’ psychophysical well-being.

Nestlé on the “Cactus” podium for mineral water scandal
Nestlé, the Swiss food giant, ranks second in the classification following revelations about unauthorized treatment practices of its bottled water. The Nestlé Waters subsidiary admitted to using prohibited disinfection systems to ensure “food safety” of its products. The case involved several brands owned by the company in France, including Vittel, Contrex, Hépar and Perrier, raising serious concerns about the transparency and integrity of production processes.
Bayrou in Mayotte: rescue mission after cyclone Chido
Prime Minister François Bayrou will visit Mayotte on Sunday and Monday, accompanied by an important ministerial delegation including Élisabeth Borne and Manuel Valls. The visit comes following the devastating passage of cyclone Chido, which caused 39 deaths and over 4,000 injured. The island, France’s poorest department, is facing a critical situation with essential services still to be fully restored, including water, electricity, and communications.
Bayrou in Mayotte? A scandal
And this morning we could hear on FranceInfo a long debate about the alleged scandal of the Prime Minister going to Mayotte. What is he going to do there? Along with four ministers too. The explanation, according to the guests, is simple: a political parade, showing up to give the impression of doing something.
No way out for Bayrou: last week he was criticized for not going to Mayotte (he preferred to preside over a city council) and this week for wanting to go there.
